just spit it out

blah blah blah phoneI was at Schneck Medical Center a couple weeks ago for an MRI. While in the waiting room area, I noticed a sign hanging on the wall right beside the treatment room door that read, “We kindly ask while seeing your physician today, that all cell phones be silenced upon entering the treatment room.

So let’s break that down… if you see your physician next week are you allowed to leave the volume ON? And, what if you’re like me… my appointment was for a test and I’m not going to see a physician… does that mean I can leave my phone’s sound at full blast?

Of course not!

Maybe it’s just me — but I think if you’re trying to reach people that don’t have enough common sense to turn off or put their phone on vibrate before entering a treatment room, you should ensure your communication is as simple and straightforward as possible. The use of flip-phone clip art indicates the sign has been around a very long time — or the sign’s creator is attempting to attract the attention of the 90 year-old dude that was waiting next to me… who probably couldn’t see to read the wordy message anyway.

Why not just spit it out? Say it already! If I have to return to Schneck Medical Center for another MRI, I think I’ll print out the sign (that I created in about 3 minutes) and take it with me along with a roll of tape.
