60k per day

Jan 7, 2013

I read someplace that on average, we think around 60,000 thoughts per day. I seriously know people that I would swear think 59,999 negative ones out of that 60 grand. If they aren’t whining, they are criticizing others. I’m sure you know a few people that fit right into that group.

But I know other people that take their 60 thousand thoughts and use most of them to create lies. Ever changing rhetoric that paints a colorful picture of a perfect life that is not really based in reality. You know… fluffy fake rainbows and pink butterflies and unicorns. And, I’m sure you know a few people that fit into that group too.

Heck, I’m willing to bet you know a few 50/50 people running around on this earth — when they aren’t fabricating garbage to make their life look perfect, they are swirling whiney thoughts and criticizing (or poking fun at) others. Those are the ones to run from. Fast. Get away before it’s too late and you get sucked into the vortex!

If someone granted YOU a transcription of all the thoughts you think in one day, what would it look like? How many of your thoughts are based on family or love? On fears? On fabrications? On dreams? On work? Add those results and you would have your life — all laid out right there, you guys.

I’m sure you’ve read, “All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten,” by Robert Fulghum. One of the points is simply this:
Live a balanced life – learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work every day some.

Think what would happen to your 60,000 thoughts if you just followed that advice…

Thinkin' happy thoughts!

ALL I REALLY NEED TO KNOW I LEARNED IN KINDERGARTEN

These are the things I learned:

  • Share everything.
  • Play fair.
  • Don’t hit people.
  • Put things back where you found them.
  • Clean up your own mess.
  • Don’t take things that aren’t yours.
  • Say you’re sorry when you hurt somebody.
  • Wash your hands before you eat.
  • Flush.
  • Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you.
  • Live a balanced life – learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work every day some.
  • Take a nap every afternoon.
  • When you go out in the world, watch out for traffic, hold hands and stick together.
  • Be aware of wonder. Remember the little seed in the Styrofoam cup: the roots go down and the plant goes up and nobody really knows how or why, but we are all like that.
  • Goldfish and hamsters and white mice and even the little seed in the Styrofoam cup – they all die. So do we.
  • And then remember the Dick-and-Jane books and the first word you learned – the biggest word of all – LOOK.
