a promise is a promise

Nov 25, 2012

I don’t make promises that I don’t intend to keep. That’s not saying that I’ve not broken more than I should’ve in the past, or that I won’t make another promise in this lifetime that I regretfully won’t be able to keep.

I read yesterday about a family in Florida that certainly knew the meaning of a promise. And although I doubt you would hear one of them complain, they know that sacrifice can sure go hand in hand with commitment to a promise.

16 year-old Edwarda O’Bara slipped into a diabetic coma at 16 and recently passed away… 42 years later. According to the Herald, just before she lost consciousness, Edwarda asked her mother to never leave her side. Her family never did. Her parents took care of her (turning her every 2 hours) until their deaths in 1976 and 2008 — and then her sister continued the promise.

Pretty amazing — and what a testament to unconditional love.
