down on the farm

henry has seen better daysIt’s been more than a few days since I’ve heard Henry Lee Summer live. (Click on that link and you’ll get a short preview of probably the only song you’ll remember he recorded… that’s IF you’re old enough to remember it in the first place.) First time I heard him was at a bar/dive/bowling alley in North Vernon in the mid-80s — the Pro Bowl. Not long afterward, he was the opener for John Cougar Mellencamp and became even more popular during and after that tour. He played all the college bars and was known for his energetic, raw and impulsive style. Last I heard, he’s a recovering addict appearing occasionally at the Slippery Noodle in Indy.

Back in the day, I thought he was awesome. When Henry Lee released this album entitled “Time for Big Fun,” I had to have it and listened to it at least a bajillion times. I remember at Farm Aid in 1990 I heard him perform this song from it called, “Down on the Farm.” Because of the huge influx of critters here on the outskirts of the Ville, that song is stuck. in. my. head. The chicken song. Arg!

Edith, the killdeer who vows to be more popular than Octomom, is back. Seriously.

And all of a sudden, our yard is like a smorgasbord for rodents.

Hi George.

We have a bunny too that is simply too elusive to photograph. You have to practice quick get-aways down on the farm… because we have two attack dogs who aren’t too keen on critters in THEIR yard.
