gloom, dispair and agony on me…

Feb 17, 2014

A song popped in my head today and I sang it out loud. Well, the only part I remembered I sang… “Gloom, despair & agony on me…Today’s rainy weather caused it for sure. Perry heard me and the conversation that followed was about Hee Haw and Minnie Pearl and Grandpa and Buck Owens and… and… neither of us could remember the name of the other guy… the big guy who was always smiling. A quick Google search and we remembered — ROY CLARK!

Google also shared photos of cast members. The second Perry saw Archie Campbell he got the singing bug too. I listened as he performed his best rendition of ‘PFFT You Were Gone.’

Where, oh where, are you tonight?
Why did you leave me here all alone?
I searched the world over,
And thought I found true love.
You met another and
Phht! you were gone.

Now that THAT crazy song is stuck in your head (if you’re old enough to even remember Hee Haw), I’ll close by simply saying that I can’t wait to teach this tune to someone else I know…

no gloom here

Hee Haw fun fact — Grady Nutt (Ordained Baptist minister) appeared in 35 episodes from 1979-1982 — and in his living room married my favorite brother to his first wife, Sheri (yes, they were married in the Nutt house).
