i will pay for what i did today…

Mar 7, 2018

Early this morning, I heard a knock at my door. Soft the first time, followed by a stronger bam bam bam shortly afterward.

I have this morning routine. I get up, take care of the dogs while my trusty Keurig fills my coffee cup, and then I sit down to check email before doing all the standard hygiene things that come before “officially” starting my work day. This morning’s visitors arrived during the coffee phase and before the shower phase, so I was still in pj’s doing what it is I do.

So I peek out. And I see a couple women and a dude, and a car parked in front of the house. I pull up the security camera footage on my iPhone and can see something in the hands of one of the well-dressed women. Soooo… (This is where it gets ugly. This is why some day I will pay for what I did today.) I softly whisper the dreaded word, “LISTEN!

“Listen” is the one word that ignites both of my hounds into a frenzy. (I copied this from my Mom — when scared and unsure of danger, you whisper the command. In reality, I could probably whisper the words “fuzzy bunny” and it would produce the same effect.)  The dogs start wildly barking and jumping at the front door — pretending they want to eat those humans trying to enter their humble abode.

Here’s what the lady had in her hands… she left one as she and the others scurried to their car:
