i wonder what’s up with that

May 26, 2010

The weather has been fabulous the past few days, and we’ve been taking advantage of it by being outside as much as possible. Like last night, I have the dogs out front long after 10:00 PM simply enjoying the fact that I can.

My little home/office is located on a dead-end road just outside of the burg. It’s a short strip of road between US31 and I65, and you’d think there wouldn’t be a ton of traffic out here since there’s really no place to go. There was a time that was true, but not anymore. Farther down the road from me are only the homes of 4 families — but lately you would think the only McDonalds for 100 miles is located at the end of this short strip of rural roadway. Traffic is heavy especially at night — go figure.

So again, I’m outside at about 10:28 PM and a bicycle with no lights is cruising down the road heading towards the burg. I seriously didn’t see or hear it coming. But Libby did. And she can run darned fast for an old fat chick — proving it by leaping the ditch and chasing the biker for about 10 yards (me running and screaming behind her all the while) before I could get control. I called out, “SORRY!” A woman’s voice replied, “It’s ok.”

A woman?? On a dark stretch of country road ALONE on a bike at 10:30 at night?

I go back in the house with my hounds, check email, catch a few moments of Nancy Grace’s bombshell evidence and figure I’d like a few quiet moments outside without dogs or the fear of them eating a pedestrian. It’s about 10 minutes after 11:00 PM when I sit down on the porch, and I hear something on the road. It’s the chick on the bicycle again, only she’s pushing it and has either stopped or is going reeeeeeeally slow right by my mailbox! What’s up with that?
