smiles – are they contagious?

Aug 5, 2012

I read an article that said scientists at Uppsala University in Sweden figured out that smiles really are contagious. The conclusion was basically that it is believed there’s a shortcut to the part of the brain that recognizes faces and expressions that bypasses the area responsible for conscious processing. You just can’t help smiling when you see another doing it, you guys.

I’ve been surrounded by smiling faces today. A visit from my favorite sister in law, Tammy, who is almost ALWAYS smiling and energetic — to Coco who is one happy baby — to Libby. Her smiles make me smile too.

“You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with.”
~Jim Rohn

I don’t know if that quote is true… or why the number ‘5’ was chosen as the golden number over 3 people or 7 people… or how long you have to spend with those “5 people” before they start to change who you are, etc. But I do know it inspires a bit of thought, at least in me anyway, insofar as the importance of surrounding myself with smiles, laughter, and positive thinking people.

Happy Sunday — I hope your day is filled with at LEAST 5 smiling people. Or dogs.
