Does it seem to you that there’s talk of a ‘government shutdown’ like every 15 minutes? If my memory serves me correctly, the whole “shut down the government” thing began with Jimmy Carter. I read someplace this week it’s happened 17 times since 1976, the longest shutdown was 21 days under Bill Clinton’s watch, and as we are on pace to breach the debt ceiling within a few weeks we still have plenty of gloom and doom to look forward to.
The good news is that members of Congress still get paid in full.
