wide aperture is good for what type of photos

Yesterday, I challenged you to practice photography along with me starting in Av mode. Since today is Mother’s Day, I hope you did the assignment because widening the aperture (a lower f-stop number) for portraits of Mom are going to earn you some major points. You’ll be the favorite sibling! Focus on Mom with a low f-stop setting (wide aperture) and you’ll end up with an image of her in focus, with a softer/blurrier/less in focus background behind her.

If you get in front of your mother and block her out of the photo… that is bad. That is VERY bad.
