10-10-10 rule

May 20, 2009

Something happened today that I can’t stop thinking about. The issue was personal and not something I can discuss publicly — even though I would like nothing better than to rant away about how much it pissed me off and hurt my feelings. Sometimes people you think at least have integrity, stoop to some pretty low places when money comes into play.

The issue I was faced with this morning did bring out the ole’ 10-10-10 rule. You know…will the consequences of my actions (no matter which decision I choose to make) matter in 10 minutes? 10 months? 10 years?

For me and this particular irritant, it will absolutely matter in 10 minutes! It will only matter in 2 months if I stay pissed (there’s not so much money involved that I will starve either way), it’s not going to matter in 10 months — and will be totally forgotten in 10 years.

Sometimes it’s better to simply not waste energy on issues that only impact you in the short-term scheme of things. I prefer to instead concentrate my efforts in a forward motion, and that’s what I’m going to do. Watch me go!
