It’s official – the NCAA Tournament is in full force.
Yesterday, Shelley’s mom and Carl (aka Dr. Death) were here for a very small Easter dinner and some game watching. The tournament didn’t disappoint us as we watched nearly three upsets happen!
First, Butler almost pulled one off on Tennessee but finally fell in overtime in a great game (much to Dr. Death’s chagrin). The Bulldogs played a heck of a game though and should be proud of the season they had.
Next, San Diego almost got Western Kentucky. Yeah I know – not really a huge upset – but they were seeded lower and it was a very entertaining game.
Finally – the biggie. Little Davidson hung the proverbial upset on number two seeded Georgetown. That is two number two seeds to go down if you’re keeping score at home (West Virginia defeated Duke earlier).
It was a lot of fun. The food and company, and some great college basketball that lived up to the title of ‘March Madness’! We all enjoyed ourselves so much and it was one of those days that you remember for years to come.
Life is good!

It’s funny how holidays change when you no longer have children at home. Easter Sunday back in the day was spent hiding eggs that were colored the night before. Ben could never get enough of the game and I can remember hiding them around the house for days — the dog coming out of the bedroom munching on the remainder of a shell from an egg not found quickly enough.
Not an egg was eaten nor hidden here yesterday, but the thing I missed most was seeing Ben eat Peeps. Peeps were the staple treat in his Easter basket…he LOVED them. He preferred the yellow ones (the pink ones were simply too feminine for such a macho dude) and protected them like they were gold — even though I wouldn’t eat one of those marshmallow things if I was starving, and the dog absolutely liked eggs better. I can also remember that his Easter basket always had a video game, a Transformer, a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle or some pretty decent thing hidden in that green plastic grass.
But as I said, holidays are different without children in the house. Here’s a glimpse of what Easter REALLY looks like in the afternoon without one…

With OUR EYES we see
The beauty of Easter
as the earth awakens once more…
With OUR EARS we hear
The birds sing sweetly
to tell us Spring again is here…
With OUR HANDS we pick
the golden daffodils
and the fragrant hyacinths…
But only with OUR HEARTS
can we feel the MIRACLE of GOD’S LOVE
which redeems all men…
And only with OUR SOUL
can we make our ‘pilgrimage to God’
and inherit His Easter Gift of ETERNAL LIFE.

I first started this post with something that is interesting to me, but when I got to the end and hit the ole’ PUBLISH button, I realized it was better suited for my business blog and didn’t really fit with the ramblings that Perry and I normally provide. If you’re interested, you can read it here.
Since the fortune cookie I cracked after eating at a Chinese restaurant recently contained the message, ‘There will be plenty of time to work hard; enjoy yourself’, AND since it’s Saturday — I’m going to enter Kalimdor as Senne and save others from certain destruction! Get World of Warcraft and join me!!

It’s hard to think about anything other than the soggy weather that has crippled the burg over the last few days. I’m afraid to watch/listen to the weather forecast — the thought of hearing we’re going to have another day like today is way too depressing. Alisa should have some rainy photos posted on her blog at some point in the near future — we were talking about it today. We agree that we especially enjoy photos that depict weather that is not run-of-the-mill. You know — extremely bright, sunny days, or snow softly falling that is already knee deep…those kinds of shots.

My next door neighbors (one of which is pictured above) have even chosen to stay inside. I don’t blame them. From all the freezing and thawing and now added rain, they can barely get around in the pasture that is already much too small for so many inhabitants. It’s nothing but a mud pie in the burg…
