For the majority of my life I’ve lived in rural areas without close neighbors; however, I was taught respect from an early age… respect for others and their property. I “get” the close quarters thing — as a kid, our family of 4 shared one small bathroom. Still, the whole neighbor thing is relatively new to me.
Having said that, I’m not sure how to handle this:
Privacy fences aren’t cheap and mine went up last fall. I doubt that vines growing up and through wood is ideal for its preservation and I personally don’t want vines overtaking my yard or fence. Obviously, the neighbor likes vines as evidenced by the fact it’s also growing up their portion of fence that faces the road.
As a good neighbor, do I spray the vines with some lethal weed killer that will cause the death of vines on their side of the fence? Do I simply spend MY time cutting and pulling only to have it grow back through? Or do I simply ignore it and let my yard be overtaken by ground covering vines I don’t like or want?
After you answer that — I’d also like advice on how to deal with about 3 neighbors that have motion detection lights that all go off when my dogs go outside to pee after dark. Dharma and Gracie are lit up like dangerous inmates trying to escape from a maximum security prison the second they squat in their own yard.
