for you non-savvy Internet people

May 14, 2015

So many small business owners are much too busy with what they do best, they don’t always know what’s going on with one important business aspect — their Internet presence… their gateway to the world… their online business brochure… THEIR WEBSITE. I’ve had so many of these same people ask me to create a website for them, but they want to do updates and modifications in-house to save on expenses. That’s awesome if you have someone that can at least do security updates. That is… unless you think the website you had created 5 years ago is going to meet current-day standards. That isn’t going to happen. Period.

Good ole’ Google controls about 2/3 of the US search market (did you know that?) and made a major change in their algorithm on April 21, 2015. Basically… if your website isn’t mobile responsive you’re going to take a major hit insofar as ranking. If you’re a small business owner with a website and have no clue what mobile responsive even IS… here’s a Google link where you can find out for yourself: https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/mobile-friendly/

So if you’re that person I’m talking about and your site didn’t pass, you have 4 options:

  1. Understand your search ranking is going to be penalized and not care.
  2. Do the “old-school” approach and develop a separate mobile friendly site.
  3. Have a native mobile app created for your site.
  4. Have a mobile responsive website developed.
