not even close to the peak this year

Oct 9, 2013

Last year on the 30th of September I wrote about fall leaves. I included two photos of vibrant foliage and guessed that we were nearing the peak — the time when fall leaves are the most colorful.

last year the leaves were splattered with color by now

But here we are this year in the second week of October and those same views don’t have the oranges and yellows and reds that one might expect this time of year.

where's the color?

Now I don’t know if this is just going to be a really pathetic year to enjoy fall colors since rain (we had NONE… then we had LOTS), is a huge factor determining how much color and what hues to expect — or if we are going to go from this dead-looking dark green to bare limbs all at once. Either way… what we are experiencing now in the way of fall foliage doesn’t appear to be nearing peak, and the fat buzzard atop the wood pillar that was once a tree can’t figure out what’s going on either.
