pool water hits 80Β°… FINALLY

pool water hits 80Β°… FINALLY

My view on the 4th of July looked like this for most of the day…

But the poor puppies weren’t so happy. Especially Dharma — she LOVES water and wanted to get in so bad. This was also my view for most of the day yesterday. πŸ™‚

The grind is real.

Back to work today, but it will (hopefully) seem like a shorter week since we had a little break in the middle. I’m not sure exactly why, but July is a month that I never want to work.

Last year, I took the entire month off — sort of. I still answered calls and did normal office/website maintenance stuff, but didn’t go the extra mile on anything. I’d listed the house and there was too much going on. This year I don’t have the same excuse — I just don’t want to work in July.

Today I Learned: A gorget is a patch of brightly colored feathers located around the throat of a hummingbird and only males have it.

This is a she and her name is now Martha.

common sense has left the building

common sense has left the building

So much ado about the recent Supreme Court’s ruling — they’re calling it a blow to “LGBTQ rights” and say it will have far-reaching impact on minority groups that will chip away at civil rights protections in the US.

I say it’s basic common sense. πŸ™„

A Christian web designer refused to create websites to celebrate same-sex weddings. The justices ruled in her favor. First, there’s plenty of web designers out there… can’t you just go pick another?

There was a time (pre working with my favorite brother) that I developed corporate websites. I had some decent clients… MTV, Calvin Klein, etc. That drew other potential clients… like this big company that produced and distributed pornography and sex toys. Even though it was a corporate business — and I was in the business of creating corporate websites — I refused to do it. Wasn’t that my right??

When you provide “expressive” services that are customized, you should get to choose who you work for.

If I’m selling cars, or onions, or pickles in a jar, of course, anyone should be allowed to buy those commodities I offer for sale. No way should a business pick and choose their customers based upon anything other than if they can pay.

That’s not the same as being HIRED to provide a customized product or service. It’s my opinion that everyone should get to CHOOSE whom they work for. What does it say about our world when something like this has to be decided by the US Supreme Court??

If people aren’t happy with our constitution, maybe they’d like a constitutional monarchy.

Who should rule… a king or a queen? πŸ˜‰

Today I Learned: Khalid bin Mohsen Shaar lost a total of 1,195 pounds. His starting weight was 1,340 pounds and he lost down to150 pounds. He’s listed as the 2nd heaviest human ever at his heaviest, and has the record for the greatest weight loss to date.

summer isn’t sure if it’s coming or going

summer isn’t sure if it’s coming or going

My puppies aren’t sure if they’re coming or going either… and here lately, I’m a bit confused myself.

Another round of storms today had me chasing down lost items all over the place. It’s time for summer to take up occupancy in the Ville and hang around till at least November.

All my people are dealing with challenges — including me!

My back is jacked up… it’s the worst it’s been since my surgery 10 or so years ago. I’m not sure what I did (or didn’t do), but I THINK I can get it back to decent without another surgery.

I could’ve injured it mowing with the new push mower (turning means twisting and that is bad), or when I was weed eating (stepping in ruts while wielding a heavy, long item and twisting is bad), or when I was riding the mower (places in this yard are like a washboard and hard bouncing is bad).

It’s more likely that it’s a combination of the above PLUS having contractors daily (skipping exercise is very bad). 😬

Big bro has issues too!

My favorite brother’s rotator cuff is shot and requires surgery right away. After shoulder surgery, he gets to wear a sling for 4-6 weeks and sleep propped up for 9-12 months. Add to that his recent scare with high blood pressure and his never ending episodes of gout, and he’s a mess.

Mamma Pesky also has a complaint.

Mom needs a pedicure. Seriously… her complaint is she has a toenail bothering her! She’s a wee bit older than either my brother or me and we seem to be falling apart… while she’s wanting her toenails painted purdy.

So what’s wrong with you?

If you’re reading this, I hope you’re happy and healthy. In the scheme of things, our challenges aren’t huge and all are “fixable.” I’m grateful for my health… but this latest back thing has reminded me how important it is to take care of yourself.

Today I Learned: Despite a growing population, full time college enrollment peaked in 2010 and has been dropping ever since.

air quality alert here due to wildfires in Canada

air quality alert here due to wildfires in Canada

This is Canada’s most destructive wildfire season on record as hundreds of blazes are still going strong sending smoke into the atmosphere. That means hazy skies and air quality alerts for many locations in the US — and that stretch as far as Europe.

President Biden attributes the broad extent of the fires on rising temperatures driven by climate change. The US is sending firefighters to assist, as is Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. The fires have already scorched around 19.5 million acres of land and the majority of the fires are still classified as “out of control.”

CBSNews.com says, “After wildfire smoke traveling south from eastern Canadian provinces brought a marked spell of haze, fumes and copper skies to the northeastern U.S. earlier in June, states being affected most severely this week are in the Midwest.

Dharma doesn’t blame Canada… she thinks Contractor Tim’s cigarettes are the culprit.

Today I Learned: A hectare is 2.47105 of an acre.

happy birthday to my momma

happy birthday to my momma

Today was my Momma’s birthday. If you’re expecting photos of the celebration sorry to disappoint. KFC (a favorite of hers), and cake with a lone candle was hand delivered but I doubt she ate much of it. She’s still struggling with the stomach virus. πŸ™

If I remember correctly, I was down 3 or 4 days with it and felt ugly for a week or so. Hard to remember now but at the time it felt like forever. I’m sure it does for her too. Hard to celebrate when you’re sick, but I’m sure she was thrilled to have another trip around the sun in the books.

I wished her a happy birthday on Facebook and it’s already had several comments. So many that it will take awhile for me to read them all to her since she doesn’t have — or want — FB. It’s always fun… she typically has a story with every name.

I can’t make up my mind if I’d rather be hot or cold!

It’s too hot inside without the A/C and it’s too cold with it on. It barely hit 70 degrees today and rained the better part of it. Dharma loves it to rain… she’s the water dog. Merida was inside keeping dry.

The downstairs A/C units are still waiting on a repair (or a replacement if the parts don’t make it in). One of their “I’m broke” symptoms is that they don’t recognize the temp. They are full blast or nothing at all. Two days until it’s officially summer and Mother Nature is obviously hanging on to spring. Like me, she doesn’t know if she wants it to be hot or cold either. πŸ™„
