If you happened to be traveling I65 yesterday around noon, and were in close proximity of the burg, you had to notice the massive number of school buses headed north. There were a gajillion bright yellow school buses in a convoy. What I found odd was that the ‘SCHOOL BUS’ lettering was still visible (the lettering is decals — if they’ve been there a long time before removal, the faded paint on the rest of the bus contrasts with the paint under the decal letters that have been hidden from the sun), but they were no longer being used as school buses. U.S. Army was placed over top of where it used to say SCHOOL BUS — but they were still yellow!! All of the buses that I looked at had temporary INDIANA tags.
Here’s the Indiana code that pertains to school buses that aren’t being used to transport students:
IC 20-27-9-16
Bus not used to transport students; modification required
Sec. 16. Whenever a school bus is purchased for and is being used for any purpose except to transport students, the purchaser shall:
(1) remove the flasher lights;
(2) remove the stop arm; and
(3) paint the bus any color except the national standard school bus chrome yellow.
As added by P.L.1-2005, SEC.11.
Go figure…
