I love taking photos (duh!) and ran across a site where you can find cool stuff to photograph on road trips throughout the US. I chose the fine state of Indiana from a drop-down just to see what really amazing (or not so amazing) things we have to offer.
We have the world’s largest ball of paint, a haunted bridge (in Avon), a smiley face water tower, and a giant slingshot. There’s a bigass peach in Bruceville, a huge strawberry in Decker, and Bunker Hill is home to a big chair. In Centerville, there’s the world’s largest candle. Clarksville has the pink cadillac on end (where they dress the mannequin on top in different outfits according to the season), and the Colgate clock — the 2nd largest timepiece in the world.
In Smithville is Baker’s Junction Railroad Museum…it seems as if the owner is having some problems though with the planning and zoning board, (photo), so you might wanna cross that spot off your list.
The Limestone pillars in Columbus are pretty cool, as is the Dillinger Jail in Crown Point. A martini-drinking pink elephant is in Fortville, Johnny Appleseed’s grave is in Fort Wayne, and there’s a grave in the middle of the road in Franklin. Greensburg has a tree growing out of the roof of the courthouse. Indy has a bunch of big stuff to photograph — a cow, Uncle Sam, swans, eye glasses, hippo, horse, chicken, cougar, bear, reindeer and a bull. (Take your wide-angle lens when ya go there!) In Jeffersonville, there’s a hubcap lady, and there’s a sundial leg in Lake Village. Marengo Cave is pretty awesome, as is the Gus Grissom Memorial and Santa Clause Land. The overalls of the world’s largest man are on display in Peru. The Children’s Museum is truly awesome.
There ya have it. There are probably other things that are equally as unusual that I left out, but that list should keep you busy for awhile.
