WordPress came out with a new update yesterday, and upon the upgrade, most of the plugins I utilize here and for other clients were hosed. Yes, that means on all the sites I manage that utilize WordPress, each plugin had to be reinstalled. Yesterday wasn’t a fun day.
It seems like about everyone with Internet connectivity now has a BLOG, but I’ve found that most folks (especially those who utilize free services such as Blogger and more), really don’t understand what an RSS feed is or does — or that their posts go into a database that basically acts as a personal wire service, or that it’s an XML-based vocabulary where new content is delivered as soon as it is published. Furthermore, most really don’t care. They don’t care until something uncomfortable happens.
For example…
- If you publish a post and then delete it, you’ll find out that even though you took it back, it was already automatically downloaded and read by others.
- And, if you make a blog post claiming you posted something when you really didn’t — others know you’re fibbing, your credibility is squashed, and you look like a goof.
If you’re out there posting away in your slice of the Internet pie, please don’t make these mistakes.
Over the next couple of days, plugin authors will be modifying their works for compatibility with the new WordPress release. I’m pretty sure this was strategically planned to keep me busy when the next round of snow (predicted to hit this weekend) invades the burg. Libby and I think we’ve had enough of the white stuff already! What about you?
