that excited spring feeling

I don’t know how it works for people who live in areas that don’t have a drastic change of seasons, but if you live in Indiana and you’re on the back side of winter, spring often brings with it a change of attitude as well as some blue to replace gray in the sky. The warmer weather makes me want to go buy a new car, strike out on a vacation, do spring cleaning, start yard work, and a whole bunch of other things too numerous to mention.

From the second I noticed this beautiful spring flower pop through the ground, I felt excited. So as I contemplate moving someplace far away from the burg — a place where snow and frigid temperatures are only a memory — I’m wondering…

Would I keep the excited feeling all the time because flowers won’t die and I don’t have to look at one dreary day after another for months out of the year — or would there be nothing left to get excited about?

lucky is me

Surely I have the most awesome family and friends on the planet. I have 20 minutes of birthday time left, and even though it’s back to the same old, same old tomorrow — today, those who matter most in my life truly made me feel special. *in my best Elvis voice* Thangyavedymuch!

UPDATE: My buddy, Sherry, blogged about my birthday too! How cool is that?? Check it out…

wondering if you know more than me

I had a conversation with a friend who simply has ZERO interest in social media. He’s never been on Facebook and doesn’t desire a Facebook account. So he explains to me that he’s getting email from people he actually knows requesting he add them as a friend. It’s not a case of generic spam email pretending to be a Facebook notification — it’s the real deal. People who know him request to be added as a friend, but it’s not really him. Interesting huh?

So, I look up the dude up on Facebook by name, and sure enough, there he is! No photo, but the location is correct — and evidently the email address is correct too because he gets notified that lots of people just can’t wait to be his friend. So who exactly is utilizing the information? If you’ve added this person as a friend THINKING it’s the person you know — his impersonator now has contact information for all your friends (phone and email at the least). And then, this fake can see the friends of your friends and ask to be friends. The fake’s list grows and grows…

A quick search for my name within Facebook yields 150 results — and right on the first page is another me that has my photo even! Who knows how many other ‘me’s’ are out there with no photo — or a generic photo (like the 4th entry in the image on the left).

While we all know about the Koobface virus spreading through emails and posts that appears to be messages sent by friends or contacts that include links to video — what the heck is going on with this other stuff?

And more importantly, what can we do about it?

like fine wine?

Ok, so maybe we’re not really aging like fine wine — but it sounds good anyway. My favorite brother played photographer at last night’s wedding, and took a shot of me with my best friend from high school, Tammy. Since I was in her wedding, I thought I would also share a couple of those images as well…

Oh yah! We look quite a bit different than we did 30 years ago, but the important thing is our friendship remains intact — AND now I know for certain that I’ve got today’s hair color just a little too dark. I’ll work on that…

Jon and Ashley Masters

My favorite cousin and best friend, Jerilyn, made it through! And, I’m so proud of her! Her son, Jonathon, got married tonight, and it was truly a beautiful event.

I think it’s pretty much the same for every family — sons are closer to their Moms, and daughters are Daddy’s girls. It’s really hard for us Moms when our baby boys take steps that change their lives forever. We simply must remind ourselves that “it’s not OUR life“, and I know from experience, that’s really difficult.

I was more than a tad worried when I read Jerilyn’s morning FaceBook post that said, “run Jon, RUN“, but she rose to the occasion with dignity and poise. I should’ve expected nothing less.

I simply can’t wait until SHE has a grand-baby on the way. Seriously. ::evil grin::
