fire warning

Apr 2, 2010

I keep WeatherBug Plus running on my PC. It can be fun to keep track of the conditions in other parts of the US and compare them to here. Not always — but sometimes. For example, when I sent my brother to Ames, Iowa in December in the snowstorm. That was extremely cool. Heh.

Today I noticed a warning that I’d never seen before. I had the big flashing thing and figured it was a run-of-the-mill flood statement (“flooding for the Muscatatuck River at Wheeler Hollow until further notice”), but no! This new thing is called a “Red Flag Warning“, and is in effect until 8:00 PM this evening. I click to check out the details and find it’s a Fire Weather Message — strong and dry S to SW flow…bring well above normal temperatures…low dew points…critical fire weather levels of near 25%… EXPLOSIVE FIRE GROWTH POTENTIAL.

Don’t worry though. Everything is going to be just fine. Probably.

So far, it looks like normal spring on the outskirts of the burg…
