tuesday treasures

Photo treasure:
I love the way that Bonzo (Scott’s hound) is looking at one of those pesky neighbors in the shot below. Scott had just finished talking about the possibility of Mom dog-sitting. I’m pretty sure Bonzo was sizing her up to see if she’s truly worthy of the honor.

Movies to treasure (or not to treasure):
I go in spurts watching movies… from none to several back-to-back. First on the list is Shutter Island. The reviews for this movie are almost all good. I thought it was ok — but it’s not something I want to see again. I like Leonardo DiCaprio and his acting was as I expected, I’m just not a fan of movies that are hard to keep up with. The plot as posted on IMDb: Drama set in 1954, U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels is investigating the disappearance of a murderess who escaped from a hospital for the criminally insane and is presumed to be hiding on the remote Shutter Island.

Next movie watched — The Wolfman. Better in my opinion that Shutter Island, but probably because I could keep up with what was going on without a whole ton of effort. I like Anthony Hopkins and he didn’t disappoint. I really don’t need to include the plot here; you know it already.

Last movie — The Bucket List. Watch this movie. Seriously. Do it now. Listening to John Mayer’s “Say” makes me want to watch it again. And again. I could listen to Morgan Freeman’s voice all day, and Jack Nicholson has always been a favorite of mine. The plot as posted on IMDb: Two terminally ill men escape from a cancer ward and head off on a road trip with a wish list of to-dos before they die.

Don’t count The Bucket List as just a sad movie about death. It’s funny, sentimental at times, and the characters pop.

times are a changin’

I’ve been reading about the California Assembly passing legislation prohibiting pharmacies and grocery, liquor and convenience stores from giving out plastic bags. My first thought was how many freaking bags a Wal-mart cashier requires to pack-up $100 worth of items. My second thought took me back to those good ole’ days when my family operated a grocery store in the burg.

We used paper sacks at McKain’s Market, (heck, my brother and I knew bag sizes by their pound numbers before 1st grade), but I still have to wonder what my Dad would’ve done if he were living and operating a grocery store in California today. When Edna bought cat food because she couldn’t afford to buy lunchmeat to eat, would he have taken her nickel for a sack to carry it home in? When Henry came at his regular time on Saturday with only a minimal amount of money to buy groceries for a very large family, would Dad have taken one penny from him that could’ve been applied toward the purchase of another loaf of bread or gallon of milk?

Is there anyone left that cares about the Edna’s and Henry’s in this world anymore? Or have we simply replaced knowing who our customers REALLY are?

burgers anyone?

What a totally awesome weekend. I don’t know about you — but I can’t wait until Friday!

exclamation point!

Inside after a little too much sun (heh – ok, a LOT too much sun), I wanted to share a photo I took earlier today.

It might’ve appeared in the sky as a warning of how hot it was going to get — one that I forgot to pay attention to. It might’ve been a reminder that I can explain how it feels to be a Nana without using a bunch of words. And, it might’ve been nothing more than a couple clouds that just happened to form one thing that simply resembles something else. You decide.

how we roll.

Today was a work day. Ok, so I admit; I didn’t accomplish much. Funny thing is — I’m not even trying to FAKE it!

The boss knew I wasn’t doing the routine stuff. He wasn’t either…

We were celebrating. That’s how we roll. Happy birthday, Mom, Tammy and Faron.
