happy day, Coco — you are one

It’s Coco’s day!

A balloon kind of day with presents, and LOTS of pink. Coco is all-girl at this stage of her young life. Evidently. She wanted nothing to do with putting her hands in the cake. I guess sticky is OUT.

Unlike her Dad at one, who loved scooping the yummy icing into his mouth during his first birthday party pictured to the left, Coco preferred to observe the festivities, eat the brightly colored paper that covered her gifts, and chase balloons. And glare at the ceiling fan, and poke the dogs in their eyes.

I think it’s funny that everyone from Ben’s side of the family gaze at Coco and go on and on about how much she looks like him. With Amber’s side of the family present for the big Coco day, they all shared their opinions insofar as how much she looks just like Amber did when she was little. I’ve always had the most difficult time thinking anyone looks like anyone else — she just looks like Coco to me.

But then again, I can’t see Ben looking a thing like me — and when others tell me I look “just like the McKain’s”, I don’t get that either.

The things that Ben enjoyed at one and the things that captivate Coco at the same age? I get that. Ben thought sticky was awesome. Coco…not so much.
