worth 1k words?

There’s a big Internet stir over the recent photos taken of the US Olympic Team. I’m willing to bet the photographer, Joe Klamar, has red hot burning ears because a whole lot of people (photographers especially) have been talking about the photos a whole lot. And not in a complimentary manner either.

You can check out the photos by clicking http://solsticevisuals.com/post/26229830602/outrage-over-the-photographs-of-the-united-states.

There are times that I love stark contrasts and rich shadows in portrait photography. On the other hand, I can’t look at any one of these photos and say, “Wow!” that picture is amazing. One photo in particular the subject is obviously posed on white paper. How do we know that? There’s a big ole’ tear in it! Most of these wouldn’t be good enough for me to share. I can’t imagine that any professional would be thrilled and satisfied with the offerings. I’m not saying I’ve not shared craptastic photos here, but I’m pretty sure that’s quite a bit different. My shared craptastic photos have only been quickie, candid shots and are not meant to represent the US Olympic Team.

I wonder if Joe Klamar’s ears burn as I type my opinion — that if a picture is worth a thousand words, the US Olympic Team is worth about 50 cents.

And now, here’s to sharing a photo of a future Olympic Team member that has already been the focus of many, many, many photographs…
