tornados and other thoughts of violence

May 21, 2013

TIP FOR THE DAY:

Do NOT watch tornado coverage while in bed at 3:00 AM. Your weather radio might start blaring warning YOU of a possible tornado where YOU live, ultimately causing a totally sleepless night. At 5:00 AM, this basementless girl was still silently planning escape routes without any options that really felt viable. I kept hearing the newscaster say something about the only way to survive was underground… basically, the whole bathtub thing is overrated. My thoughts this morning are with those in Oklahoma. The Ville was spared again — just rain to make the grass grow so we can mow some more.

Just rain...

And in other thoughts of violence… today is the day that Jodi Arias has the opportunity to address her jury to save herself from the death penalty. When I believe in the death penalty (which isn’t 100% of the time), I feel it should be reserved for the worst of the worst. While shooting your ex in the head, stabbing him/her almost 30 times, slashing his/her throat from ear to ear, and leaving him/her to rot naked in the shower is heinous — is it the worst of the worst?

I want justice for victim, Travis Alexander, and his family/friends — and I never want Ms. Arias to see the light of day. Still, she’s not a serial killer (Travis could’ve chosen not to continue the sexual relationship after all) and she’s not murdered any babies. Those are the offenders I could put to death. I think. I’m thrilled I’m not setting on that jury for this phase of the trial.
