There are a ton of perks when you work from home. People tell you about them all the time:
- You can throw in a load of laundry during the workday.
- Your breaks are your own — not taken in a “room” with colleagues.
- No unscheduled absences.
- No drive time to/from work increasing work/life balance.
- And on… and on…
There are disadvantages too, you guys. I’m not even going to make a list, but I am going to share just one simple thing — a skillet of burnt potatoes:
Burnt potatoes on the stove after 7:00 PM because of a work call.
I’m not sharing because I want to work in a corporate office. I’m sharing because I believe it doesn’t matter where you do it… there are perks and disadvantages either way.
I’m also sharing because I have shingles and feel like garbage; have put in way too many “work” hours today; ate a piece of toast at my desk for lunch; and had someone tell me that I “just work from home” (like that’s not a REAL job and I should have all the time in the world).
Work is work.
