I promised to share what happened on the dreaded Monday yesterday. Ooops! So I’m a day late…
TMTR Summary: Sick dogs and water leaks combined with work make for a worse than normal (maybe worse than EVER) Monday.
We pulled in the driveway at home at 2:30 AM on Monday morning after the Disney trip and dog pick-up at the boarders was at 9:00 AM. A cup of coffee for the road and I made it in time. (Almost!) Dharma didn’t go crazy to see me (I was disappointed and hurt), and Gracie was breathing funny. Like… sucking air with her sides caving in.
Once in the car, Gracie simply couldn’t get her breath. The sound was awful! I called the vet during the ride to Seymour from Crothersville and wasn’t sure I could get her there in time. I rushed in to faces of fear from the vet techs and Dr. Rennecamp took her immediately for a shot. He let me know the shot had little effect and sedation was required to check for obstructions. I had to leave her.
Picking her up a few hours later, I was told she had laryngeal paralysis and was sent home with my STILL struggling to breathe dog, a bag of pills, and instructions to situate her in a spot with a box fan. I wondered if I would get her home before she died. Then, she fell out of the car in the driveway.
In the meantime, Ben called to let me know while we were away he had a water leak that was pouring through his kitchen ceiling from the upstairs bath. AND, I had real work and a mountain of emails to wade through and issues to address.
It was the worst Monday I can remember.
But it did improve! The SECOND we walked in the door, Gracie was perfect (other than being old as dirt and decrepit). No breathing issues at all. Not saying there was a misdiagnosis because the symptoms may reappear (although they haven’t yet), but I wonder if it was merely a panic attack of some sort.
And the plumber has already fixed Ben’s water leak and all that’s left is to repair the ceiling.
