I love Amazon. Amazon Prime is awesome; I have several Alexa devices; and have even developed a few apps/skills for the platform.
I love Google. We use G-Suite for our corporate email; I’ve always preferred the Chrome browser (even on the Mac); and youtube is a staple insofar as my work.
But Google doesn’t love Amazon, and Amazon hates Google. Their competition and inability to “play nice” poses a real challenge. It’s especially hard on old people who (in my experience) tend to be technologically challenged. I may or may not be talking about the pesky non-neighbors.
Our latest challenge is YouTube TV. It’s MUCH better than Hulu and offers more channels for less money than DirecTV Now. But… the Amazon Fire TV Stick doesn’t let you get Google’s YouTube TV app and of course, that’s what Mom & Carl have on their non-smart TVs. There is a workaround, but HOLY COW — try walking the over-70’s through that process… I gave up after an hour.
Today, I have to brave a trip to Wal-mart to pick up a Chromecast. One horrible experience in my future that could’ve been avoided if only amazon and google could place nice!
Speaking of old people… my granddaughter’s orientation was yesterday and it’s back to school tomorrow. 🙂
