so many voices… so much noise

Apr 21, 2020

I’ve never seen a subject — outside of politics and religion — where so many people have such strong opinions as they do now regarding the COVID19 pandemic. Social media is saturated with voices — of course, all believe THEY are right. How can everyone be so confident in their opinions?

What We Know…

  • This is a new virus and we don’t know nearly enough about it
  • There are no therapies approved for those who become ill
  • There’s no vaccine
  • People die from it, and
  • We can get sick if we’re around another person that has it

I’m happy I don’t have to be one of the decision-makers who will be tasked to make the call on what to do now and how others should respond. Every decision is bound to be fraught with some degree of uncertainty and will have negative impacts no matter how well the intention.

I feel fortunate that I’m not an essential worker… but unfortunate that my income is in the shitter. Because my expertise isn’t in the medical field and I’m not some research scientist, I can only count on those people — those EXPERTS — to carry us through the noise.

About the only good thing I saw on Facebook yesterday was this — and it was posted by a Canadian.

isolation well-being

That whole thing about getting your heart rate up? This is the look I get when I try to get on the treadmill.

puppies

Either Dharma and Merida think I’m crazy walking and going nowhere (which maybe I am), or they’re asking in doggy sign language to see my bottom teeth.

Quick stats as of 4 p.m. 4/21/2020 (day #46 of isolation for me)
98 cases in Jackson County (up 8 since yesterday – 0 deaths)
12,097 cases in Indiana (up 431 since yesterday)
816,240 cases in America (up 39,727 since yesterday)
