think I’ll move to Jackson Hole

If you have one shrub that requires trimming that’s too many. I know this because I trimmed 100 of them today during a heat advisory.

lots of shrubs around my house

The photo above only shows the shrubs in front… but each side of this house also has shrubs and there’s even more in the back. I started early and it was already hot. I stopped several times to cool off and hydrate so the job lingered into mid-afternoon by the time I got all my clippings cleaned up.

All thoughts of moving to a “warm” climate vanished by 2:00 PM ET and I was dreaming of a place with cooler temps and lots of snow — like Wyoming. It was close to 100°F with the heat index at 105° and I thought I’d die before I finished the trimming task along with weed-eating 10-miles of edging.

Even Merida picked a spot in front of a fan after coming inside. 72° inside and blowing air still feels amazing.

Merida's keeping cool inside

Throughout the day there were news alerts flowing to my phone and buzzing on my watch. The blasts by two suicide bombers in Kabul killed 13 US service members and wounded 18. Around 250 Afghans are dead or wounded. Biden blamed Trump. It was known that tens of thousands of people would be evacuating. How can Trump be blamed when the military just handed over Bagram?

What a horrific and despicable attack on those simply seeking safety! 🙁 I wish assessing whom to blame would’ve waited until the last evacuees were out.

TIL (Today I Learned): A 2019 analysis of nearly 4 million people in the United States, Canada, Scandinavia, New Zealand, Australia and the United Kingdom found dog ownership was associated with a 24% reduction in dying early from any cause. If the person had already suffered a heart attack or stroke, having a dog was even more beneficial; they were 31% less likely to die from cardiovascular disease.

Happy National Dog Day to Merida, Dharma, and good hounds everywhere! 🥰
