About 5-years or so ago, I paid to have some trees cut down and their stumps removed. I’m pretty sure one tree in the backyard had some pretty big roots that were left in place. That’s the only thing that makes sense because in that area there are some evil mushrooms growing. BIG, orange and brown, stinky fungi.
Google seems to think these are Omphalotus illudens — the Jack O’Lantern Mushroom. They’re known to grow around rotting wood and they are poisonous! I especially worry about Dharma being exposed to them every time she’s outside. That girl will eat poop, for crying out loud. Any living being that will consume feces will eat anything… including evil mushrooms.
I spent about an hour pulling them up. When finished, I had 3 Wal-mart bags overflowing with those evil suckers. Mixing dish soap with water and applying in the area multiple times a day for a week is supposed to kill the spores and stop the growth. In the meantime, I’m hoping diluted Dawn keeps Dharma from thinking anything I might’ve missed out there is edible. 🙄
Too bad my tree cutting/root removal dude is now in prison. Not like he can come back and finish what he started. 😉
