I’m not smart enough to know what the US or NATO should do about Ukraine. Even worse, any opinions I could form would be based upon what’s being reported. What’s being reported is what will SELL… clicks. I’ll admit that I’m clicking and reading, but remain skeptical because I trust the media less than about anything else on the planet.
What Russia is doing to Ukraine is a tragedy… I know that. I truly believe that the US must protect American security interests at home and abroad. But then, I wonder how we can protect borders of another country when our own are pretty messed up.
I will admit I didn’t know anything about thermobaric bombs (vacuum bombs) — but I do now. I didn’t know that’s what the US used in 2017 on Taliban in Afghanistan. I was oblivious to the fact that non-nuclear weapons have been developed that are so very deadly they vaporize bodies and crush internal organs.
I know Pence’s statement, “peace follows strength” was to punctuate the fact that the US and NATO need to show strength so peace will follow. Basically, the sanctions imposed aren’t strong enough to make Putin change his direction. Thinking ahead, I pray Putin’s actions and threats don’t also mean peace will follow after Russia’s show of strength at the cost of human lives. 😯
And even the mention of Chernobyl is scary, isn’t it? Add to that Russians have now captured it.
How to deal with a thug, crook, former KGB officer and dictator?
Can you imagine living where all men aged 18-60 are banned from leaving the country because they’re being drafted to fight in a war? 60 years-old?? That’s like really close to my age — as in “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up!” That’s what is going on right now in Ukraine. I hope all the oldies are cooks and in communications or something other than carrying weapons.
While one second I think the world should intervene and bomb the shit out of Russia — the next second I think that’s a horrible idea. Biden was clear that the sanctions imposed would require us to sacrifice as we head to the pumps, etc. — so does that mean we’re going to feel the effects of the sanctions more than Russia? Does Putin care that Russian civilians can’t use Apple Pay or Google Pay?
Nothing makes sense… or does it?
The older I get, the less I understand. I liked it better when we didn’t feel we deserved to know everything… especially as it pertains to government intelligence and secrets. I miss the days when reporting was more factual and less opinionated… back when the rush to story was longer than 10 seconds.
And finally, I’ll be watching to see how Apple responds to Ukraine’s request that they cut product sales and access to the app store to Russia.
