not quite ophidiophobia… but almost

Apr 15, 2022

Nothing better than clearing weeds around your flower beds when you’re faced with a full day of almost 70 degree sunny weather. At least that was my mindset after lunch today.

Until…

Snake on concrete

I know that’s an awful photo, but I was back as far as possible with max zoom on my trusty phone camera. And maybe I was shaking a little bit. 😉

If you know what kind of non-venomous snake that is… erm… was… let me know. I checked out Hoosier Herpetological Society’s website and I’m still unsure.

This ain’t the Ville up ’round here!

Where I lived previously it was nothing to see a snake. And of course, many were much larger than the one pictured above. But that’s the first snake I’ve encountered since I’ve lived here and it’s my hope its parents and siblings are far, far away. I might’ve left a dead carcass to scare off any others that think it’s safe to take up sunning at my front door.

Even Dharma’s on her best behavior because she saw the throw down this afternoon and has a new appreciation for my skills.

Dharma is on her best behavior

TIL (Today I Learned): Ophidiophobia is an extreme, overwhelming fear of snakes. The condition is called a specific phobia (fear), which is a type of anxiety disorder. Ophidiophobia may be associated with herpetophobia, which is fear of all reptiles. Many people are somewhat fearful of snakes.
