Awoke this morning to a blanket of fog and would’ve loved to have slept another couple hours. My hounds wouldn’t cooperate and pestered me until I gave up and got up. I made the mistake long ago of feeding breakfast and it’s a habit they refuse to break.
Can you guess the time by the position of the sun?
I guess I shouldn’t complain when it was a little after 8:00 AM ET. There are a few fall leaves hanging around, but for the most part the trees are naked. It’s like they are still wearing their underwear and that’s about it. 🙂
My favorite brother is heading to Australia today by way of Honolulu. He’ll be spending much of his birthday tomorrow on a plane but can claim to have been on the island for his special day.
It’s spring in Melbourne.
Seems crazy that it’s spring there when we’re heading into winter. That means they celebrate Christmas in the summertime. But wait! They celebrate twice! They also have ‘Christmas in July’ (known as Yulefest or Yuletide). Sounds like I need to move down under. I’d still get my four distinct seasons.
Another reason I should think about the big move is how they celebrate Christmas in December. Tradition is that family and friends gather on Christmas Day for gift exchange and holiday food. While we may think turkey and ham for Christmas, they typically eat freshly caught seafood prepared at an outside BBQ. Lots of beer and good cheer!
It is fall in Indiana, but looks like winter this morning…
And to think… jacarandas and wildflowers are in bloom in Australia.
TIL (Today I Learned): 1500-2000 of the 20k-30k estimated to have been disappeared by the Argentine military between 1976 and 1983 in the Argentine Dirty War were by way of death flights. It’s when captives were loaded into a plane, stripped, and pushed out over the ocean. 😬
