Whiteland, Indiana, took a direct hit from an EF2 tornado last night. Significant damage carried over to parts of Franklin too. There were at least 40 reports of tornadoes from multiple states and more than 28 million people were under a tornado watch at some point yesterday. And it’s only April 1st.
Many were and are without power in Indiana — and other states too according to reports.
You know how they say you should take cover in the middle of your home if you don’t have shelter?
Well… this photo from Tennessee has me rethinking that…
Other photos of homes and business reduced to sticks are all over the Internet — oh, how powerful tornadoes are. And when they come at night? That’s really scary. I was glued to no fewer than 3 weather reports and my phone has apps that put out warnings as well. But I miss my weather radio! (It’s in a box somewhere… we’ve not located it since the move.)
To stay or to go…
I’ve always wondered if I would stay or go should a tornado head my way and there was time to decide. I honestly don’t know. I think I might be the person that didn’t leave thinking that would be stupid considering the likelihood of it hitting me. People like me need a basement or a shelter. I WOULD do that.
It’s over now until next time.
By nightfall, the wind had died down and the temps had dropped over 20 degrees since morning. The sky was cloudy but the sunset still beautiful.
TIL (Today I Learned): Hippos have a reflex mechanism that allows them to pop up, take a breath, and go back down without waking up so they can sleep underwater.
