There are several reasons that tiny homes have become increasingly popular in recent years — and they are likely to grow in popularity.
Here are the top 4 reasons tiny homes are so popular:
- They’re cheaper to build and maintain.
- They’re more environmentally friendly (less to heat and cool).
- They offer a minimalist lifestyle (reduce clutter and focus on essentials).
- They are cozy, affording security and comfort.
Those are all good reasons, right? Who doesn’t want to spend less money to build and maintain their home? There’s not a person alive that says, “Oh, but I want to pay huge utility bills.” Everyone should feel comfortable and safe in their home. But ole’ #3 is the one that gets me…
Focus on essentials and reduce clutter…
I hate clutter, but if I tried to put all my essentials into a tiny home that’s exactly what I would have. CLUTTER!
When we first talked about moving back to Crothersville, we got bids on reworking the home of the Pesky’s. The plan was to build an area for them off the main building and Mom was happy with 640 square feet. Now that’s size XXL compared to the average tiny home. But to put it into perspective… that’s smaller than the one room I’m having remodeled!
And while the remodel process is going on, I feel so cramped and everything is everywhere. I’m simply not a fan. Cozy is not supposed to be cramped, is it?
Barndos check a lot of the tiny home boxes…
Cheaper to build and maintain… check! Cozy, secure and comfortable… check! This place is considerably more minimalistic than the Seymour house so I’m putting a checkmark there too. 🙂 Environmentally friendly… ummm… not so much. But I do love the morning view!
TIL (Today I Learned): The late president of Nintendo, Hiroshi Yamauchi, owned the Seattle Mariners baseball team. He had never been to a baseball game before buying the team, and despite owning the Mariners for over 20 years, never attended a single one of their games.
