The deck is DONE. The electric to the pool is next… Tuesday is the day. Four days free from home improvement! Yippee!
On this deck project, I gave Tim the authority to use his creative license. I specifically asked for two things…
ONE:
I wanted a deck that extended from the current one — a place where my Momma could sit and be out of the sun that had a gate to keep the dogs from getting in the pool. He built an upper level that is a comfortable place to read and stay cooler while making sure the younger humans don’t drown.
TWO:
I wanted a way to get steps into the pool (not a ladder) that were accessible from the deck. (Although the installers said the pool height was the same as the existing deck, they were wrong.) He accomplished this with a lower level with just enough room for two lay-down chairs for those who want to enjoy the sun, or just dry off after swimming.
I got exactly what I wanted and couldn’t be happier!
Tim did a great job and I don’t care that what he said would take 4 days took over 3 weeks. Just recovering from cancer — surgery, chemo and radiation — I could see an improvement in his abilities just in the time he was here. I could see him getting stronger.
Before he left today, he thanked me for giving him the job because even more than the money — he needed a self-confidence boost. He’d not “built” anything since he got sick. It’s for sure he’s on the mend and his work is such that I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him to anyone.
Tim had nothing to do with the view out there, but it isn’t too shabby either!
I’ve already lined him up for the fall. Once the wood has had time to dry, it’s going to need to be painted to match what’s already here — and while he’s at it, we’ll hit the other 5 bajillion square feet of decking too. It all needs a fresh coat of paint. 🙂
