I broke down and saw a doctor today. I learned a few interesting things that I’ll share with y’all. Please note that I’m not a doctor and I didn’t stay at a Holiday Inn last night. This is just what this doctor explained to me:
- Dayquil/Nyquil isn’t good for sinusitis.
- Best medicines are nasal steroid sprays like Flonase or Nasonex. (Don’t use Afrin or any sprays with oxymetazoline.)
- If you don’t have heart issues or high BP, pseudoephedrine helps (like Sudafed). You have to get this from the pharmacist. Don’t use phenylephrine — what’s in most common over-the-counter decongestants.
- Mucinex (guaifenesin) and Mucinex DM (any medication with dextromethorphan) has been proven in studies to work no better than placebo.
- Neti pot is good.
Me and my neti pot…
I took my first antibiotic tonight and am still using the grossest product ever made. Pouring warm salty water into your sinuses is nasty, and for the record, Flonase stinks. It smells like plastic flowers for HOURS after use. It does help if you can stand the smell.
Sick of being sick and don’t want to see the sunrise.
Coco will be here by 6:30 AM and it’s already almost midnight. I’ve seen the sun rise more times in the past 2 weeks than I have over my entire lifetime.
Now you know: 21 out of the last 31 U.S. elections, the tallest person was elected President.
