Grippo’s potato chips are the bomb! Spicy yet sweet — this brand of potato chips is my current favorite.
Grippo’s is headquartered in Cincinnati and they’ve been around since 1919. They started out making ice cream cones in a one-room office and added pretzels in 1923. They didn’t add potato chips until 1959. Their plant employs 60 workers and they’ve remained a family business — turning down offers to sell to outsiders.
Grippo’s products are only sold in Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky — but they are available for purchase online (but are expensive!). While Lay’s dominates the market, Grippo’s is still a growing company — in part aided by a “cult-like” following. (Insert ME here.)
Nostalgia adds to their success.
Since Perry is from the Cinci area, he had these as a kid. He went on to reminisce… telling of his Mom buying the powder that you applied to potato chips yourself.
Grippo’s still uses a simple, old-fashioned recipe for their chips:
“We just dig them out of the field, scrub them, slice them and run them through the fry oven for 5 minutes.”
Seriously, they are the BEST. I’ll take simple — and distinct — every single time.
Now you know: In 2022, Apple achieved its highest-ever share of global smartphone operating profit at 85% despite its shipment share only being 18%.
