Merry early Christmas to me today! UPS brought my monitor and FedEx brought my new mac in a box. UPS is typically 100% better in this area than FedEx. But not today! UPS left my monitor in front of the garage with the box open on one side. As if that wasn’t bad enough, it was left in the rain without plastic covering the box. FedEx handed me my computer with a smile.
Set-up is a PIA.
Transferring data from my old Mac to my new one is easy peasy… BUT, it takes F O R E V E R. It’s been running for 6 hours and I have 2 to go. The old Mac is slow but there’s stuff on there I want. Not enough room on the desk until the old mac goes into retirement upstairs, the new system is currently on the floor.
Hard to believe that little 4 pound box in the photo above is a 12-core CPU, 38-core GPU, with a 3TB SSD and 32GB unified memory, and 10Gb Ethernet. I can’t wait to shut the old one down and move the new one to my desk!
I still have over a month of practice retirement.
I swore I wasn’t going to work for 2 months but things aren’t going as expected. The time of the year that’s NEVER busy is busy this year. On top of that, my boss is not only grumpy but he can’t do much of anything himself.
Now you know: Egyptian mummies would have their eyes replaced by shells, linens or painted onions. This has made it especially difficult to study Egyptian mummy eyes since embalmers often made no effort to preserve them.
