Yesterday, I finally admitted to myself and the world I simply can’t do the same things I used to be able to do. The realization hit me hard shortly after I started pulling up the crappy weed barrier that’s under layers of mulch in landscaping project #3.
My stamina went down fast.
That little tree/bush thing in the photo above has roots growing above AND below the barrier. Pulling the material, laden with heavy dirt, mulch and weed roots, was hard on this old girl. Putting the heavy strips in the wheelbarrow was no piece of cake. By the time I pushed the wheelbarrow to the back of the house, I was walking like Quasimodo.
At least landscaping area #2 is finished!
I pulled the weed barrier out from around the small ornamental tree in the front yard last year.
This year, I planted flowers and mulched — and even the sidewalk has been power washed. It’s finished until mum season in the fall.
Senior citizenship sort of sucks.
When you’re young, you simply don’t think about the things you’ll no longer be able to do as you age. And as you age, your brain doesn’t know that your body can’t keep up anymore — until it’s at its limit.
Spring may be the time of renewal, but my body didn’t get the memo. With furniture to power wash, grass seed to sow, and the entire pool area left to landscape — I simply don’t know if I’m going to be able to do it all. Still, no white flag waving yet!
Now you know: In 2010, whilst still playing football, Brett Favre became the first active player to be a grandfather in the history of NFL.
