taking a 24-hour trip to Commonwealth Bay

Mar 14, 2025

Commonwealth Bay in Antartica is considered to be the windiest place on earth. Katabatic winds in Commonwealth Bay are recorded at over 150 mph on a regular basis, and the average annual wind speed is 50 mph. Although the weather has been amazing here in southern Indiana for the past few days, we’re under a wind advisory starting at 5PM today. Not REALLY like Commonwealth Bay, but we are supposed to have 20-30 mph winds with gusts up to 55 mph.

Preparedness actions…

The precautions stated include using extra caution driving and securing outdoor objects. What I did to prepare was to set 2 plants on the deck next to the barndo. I’m hoping the wind blows all the winter dead away and the rain (thunderstorms are forecasted also) will be good for them too. I’ll bring them in before it freezes overnight on Sunday.

Sunshine will be gone until Monday.

It looks like clouds, thunderstorms and showers will stick around for the entire weekend. But yesterday was sunny enough it required squinting. 🙂

Dharma squinting

Now you know: In 2001 a 13 year old boy scout went missing in Yellowstone Park for over 18 hours and used his belt buckle to reflect sunlight and signal passing planes. His signal was happened to be spotted by Harrison Ford.
