Betty was married to Dad for 12 years when he passed in 2004. She was a sweet lady that took wonderful care of Dad, was always good to Ben, and I never heard her complain. Not one time. She was laid to rest today beside my Dad.

Rain… and lots of it!
The service was held up because Scott and I were late. I knew the water was down on 250 but didn’t know the road was closed to replace a culvert. I had to go through Seymour to get to Brownstown since I passed the Tampico Pike option. I hadn’t planned on that. 🙁
Scott called a couple times on his 3.5 hour drive. It was raining so hard he said he couldn’t even see past the hood of his car. Thinking I would arrive before him, he asked that I explain and apologize for him. Already late due to my detour, it then rained on me so hard I slowly passed at least 1/2 dozen cars pulled over with their hazard lights on. I called Scott to let him know he would likely get there before me.
Me: I’m in Seymour. Where are you?
Scott: I’m in Seymour; at a stoplight just getting ready to pull onto 50.
I looked to my right and there he was! I had the green light and waived as I passed by. He rolled in behind me and followed me to the cemetery.
Dad would’ve been proud.
Children of two of Dad’s brothers were there (Max & Jack) — Sherry, Jenny & Becky. Of course, they made the comment that neither Scott nor I would be on time for our own funerals. Only one of Betty’s sons came, but the entire family of her caregiver (niece) — along with their families — were there. The niece’s grandson did the service. They brought 2 big boxes of Dad’s stuff but I’ve yet to go through them. I did see the flag presented to Betty at Dad’s service still folded in the top of one box.
I’m sure I’ll find some jewels in those boxes — happy memories, yet sad too. Rest in peace, Betty.
