can you reframe challenges into opportunities?

Apr 24, 2025

There’s no shortage of self-help advice floating around in the universe… if not online, your family and friends are sure to offer opinions. Yesterday was a shit day. To deal with the challenges, I pulled out the best past advice I could think of… reframing challenges into opportunities. How could I make something positive out of a negative day?

The challenges…

I was supposed to take Mom to her cardiologist but my A/C repair guys couldn’t reschedule me for a week or more. Yup! The A/C in the office has again decided not to work properly. Temps heating up and not wanting to pay for a missed service call, Mr. Pesky took my place with Mom, and the S&L repair truck — nearly a permanent fixture here at the barndo — provided transportation for a dude that’s been here so often he feels like family.

S&L back again

After a full day, I still have no A/C and they have to send their mini-split “expert” to hopefully figure it out. To make matters worse, I had to sit outside with the dogs since two are annoyingly friendly, and one looks for any new face to eat off. They were supportive to my plight.

The spin…

By reframing setbacks as opportunities, it’s possible to salvage negative experiences and instead cultivate positive ones. With that in mind, I scrubbed all my outdoor furniture and rearranged it to better fit the upcoming season. It’s something that had to be done and now it’s finished — and I had to remain outside anyway. Mom had a fabulous report from her doctor without me, and I still had time in the evening to enjoy a sunset.

There’s always something to be grateful for, even if itโ€™s as simple as a sunset, a kind word, a healthy Mom, or clean outdoor furniture. ๐Ÿ™‚

Now you know: The CIA created a gun that could shoot darts causing heart attacks. Upon penetration of the skin, the dart left just a tiny red dot. The poison worked rapidly and denatured quickly, leaving no trace. This weapon was revealed in a 1975 Congressional testimony.
