Hugo is still in the toddler stage of ‘doghood.’ Merida is experiencing her mid-dog crisis era and Dharma is in the senior stage of life. As a dog parent, meeting the distinct needs of each of them can be a challenge. Merida loves to take walks as does Hugo. Dharma loves that too… but she’s simply not able to walk much more than to the mailbox and back. Leaving her behind is heartbreaking.
With the weather warming up somewhat, she likes being outside even if it’s to lie in the sun on the deck. For the record, I like that too. 😉
Dharma’s has had a horrible couple of weeks.
Last week, Dharma’s hips gave way when going down the one step to the yard and I had to help her up. (She’s more than 100 pounds, so that wasn’t easy.) I called the vet and he put her on a muscle relaxer, pain meds, and a steroid. It helped… but she was still not great. I called again and made her an appointment for a visit and it’s today. When I made the appointment 3 days ago, I thought it would be to talk about the end stage of her life.
But yesterday, she started feeling MUCH better. Yay!
It’s my hope that after blood work and an exam, Dharma’s vet will have recommendations on how we can help her remain pain free and mobile. I brushed her today and although she’s not a fan, she understands the phrase, “isn’t she beautiful” and struts around proudly once the chore is finished. ❤️
