dermatology appointment in the books

Jun 12, 2025

I waited right at 3 months to get in to see my dermatologist over a place on my skin. The text message reminders sent daily the week of my appointment were annoying… not gonna lie. I’d waited 3 months and believe it or not, I couldn’t wait to get there. I made it, as evidenced in the photo below. 😉

Biopsies and frozen spots…

It’s like one day you wake up and your skin has turned old. The place I had on my shoulder (my primary concern) had another suspicious spot right next to it. I thought that one was a mosquito bite. But no!

Another place I was worried about wasn’t anything — probably just a hazard of my weedeating prowess that I keep shaving the top off of before it can heal. And then, there was a teeny tiny place on my forehead that I just noticed last week that needed a biopsy. I’m surprised there was enough to even slice off — it was less than 1/2 the size of the tip of a #2 pencil.

It’s all my momma’s fault!

I have a lot of sun damage. I’ll probably continue to add to that since I simply love being outside. But my dermatologist said that the majority of my current skin issues stem from sun exposure before the age of 15. I told them my Mom has a birthday in just over a week and invited them to come for cake so THEY can tell her that. No takers on the invitation.

I remember all the summers when Ben was little and how we spent so much time on the boat at Hardy Lake. Even then, as a parent I didn’t think about his skin at 65 years old. There wasn’t a lot of talk about the dangers back then. I’m sure it was talked about even less when Mom was raising us.

Here I am, years later, and still allowing children to sun bathe. 😉

For the record, skin biopsies are still easier than going to the dentist for a filling.
