something scary is in the woods

Jul 15, 2025

Something stinky is lurking in the woods beside the barndo.

So Merida is TERRIFIED to go out in the fenced in yard. TERRIFIED!!

This fear began yesterday afternoon. She started to go out and got spooked, ran back inside and barked. Not gonna’ lie, it sort of creeps me out because I don’t see a darned thing. When she was brave enough to venture outside on the deck, she would stick her nose up and smell the air. Then she would tuck tail and run back to the door.

Perry walked through the woods where whatever smell she’s smelling is — he couldn’t smell a darned thing. He did find a spot where the grass has been flattened like something might be bedding down out there. The only thing we can think of is she saw a deer… or maybe coyotes? Whatever she’s afraid of has a smell that neither Perry nor I can detect.

She ran back and forth on the deck until she was close to a heat stroke.

If that’s not challenging enough, Dharma needs an escort off the deck. She can’t help it because she’s old, but it’s still an issue that requires special attention. Hugo doesn’t want to eat. When he does decide to eat, it’s when the other two are done and he has an audience. Also, he changes his food preferences — what he’ll eat one day, he won’t touch the next.

Hugo the picky eater.

We’ve all got something wrong with us (except Perry).

I have to take Mr. Pesky to Greenwood to the neurosurgeon about his back today. If you know him, you know how incredibly picky he is about his vehicles. I have to take him in HIS new truck. I want to help… I do… but I’d rather take a stick in the eye than drive his vehicle with him in it. Oh, and the seatbelt is going to hit right where I had surgery last week.

Next, today I got word that my downstairs heat and A/C unit isn’t repairable. They’ve tried everything so that really, really sucks. They wanted to come Wednesday to give me a couple options and estimates, but that day I’m taking Mom to the dentist because she’s having pain from her implants.

If that’s not enough… there are additional dog problems.

Sadly, each time I’m gone, Dharma has to stay shut up in the bedroom because the other 2 dogs are too rough for her. And, when S&L comes for the estimate, they all have to stay outside (two are too friendly and the other is a meanie butt turd). Not sure how I’m going to manage that one if Merida is still a scaredy cat.

All things considered — even though we’re all struggling with unfortunate circumstances — we’re all breathing and this too shall pass. 🙂

Now you know: Casanova, the famous womanizer, wrote a five-volume story about an underground world inhabited by dwarves.
