don’t buy a washable rug too big to wash

Jan 10, 2026

I bought an expensive washable rug in size 10’x14′. You guys, there’s not a washing machine in the state big enough to wash that sucker. That purchase is one of the biggest money mistakes I ever made. To make matters worse, I bought two.

Yesterday, poor Dharma got sick… guess where.

Because it was raining, I didn’t rush out and pick up turds so she decided to eat them. Is that gross or what?? Puke piles #1 and #2 were on the concrete. Quick clean up and some Clorox bleach and it was only a memory. But piles #3 and #4 ended up on the huge rug in the front room.

These were piles made by a 105 pound dog. Spot cleaning a rug that you eat next to wasn’t something I was willing to do. The Ruggable system is comprised of a velcro like pad with a thin rug that goes on top. I scooped up the biggest part of the mess, wadded that rug into a lawn sized garbage bag, and rolled up the pads (because they can be used to make 4, 5″x7″ ruggable rugs).

Don’t be stupid like me and not think through your large purchase. I should’ve known better. And now that I’ve stored the pads upstairs in the cubby, I found that Ruggable is no longer doing the 2 part system so I’m basically screwed. ARG!

Next, I had ChatGPT redesign the room with a fresh idea.

I would still cut a couple feet off the rug size they recommend (the part under the couch isn’t required to get the same look), but otherwise I really like it.

What say you?
