today is Perry’s last day in Madison

Jan 21, 2026

Perry has more or less been married to Madison in one job or another for the past several years. He was offered a new job that pays more money, but it has significantly more responsibilities too. It should be less hours. The best thing about it is it’s closer to home and not in Madison.

The worst thing about it is that he has training in Florence, KY for 6 weeks. Now that’s a long way from home, you guys — it’s about an hour and 45 minute drive one way, 5 days a week. YOUCH! Being paid mileage and drive time still doesn’t soften that blow. If it were me, I’d get a room for at least 3 nights/week.

Change vs. consistency:

Some changes have been out of his control… like losing more hair — while other things have stayed the same… like not growing any taller. 😉

As an aside, I don’t even remember taking the photo above. Revisiting it now, it looks like the dude in the hat isn’t thrilled that Perry is reaching around him for some kind of bro-hug. Heck, Perry wanted to be friends with everyone back then.

Tomorrow starts one week of R & R (aka cleaning the garage).

After a week long hiatus, his new adventure will begin. Working a job until you’re old doesn’t change — outside of hitting the lottery or getting sick/dying — but for Perry, the scenery and distance from home is about to transform.

Here’s wishing him all the best!!

Now you know: The main reason scientists oppose relocating polar bears to Antarctica is that they’d eat too many emperor penguins.
