Celebrating my Mom’s birthday on the 19th of June, I got a gift.
It was almost like when my brother and I were kids and we both got presents on each other’s birthday. 🙂
from a minute ago… my baby bracelet

Mom has one just like it (only broken) from my brother’s birth 5 years before me.
This is proof that change isn’t always good, you guys…
Fast-forward 23 years at the same hospital and these were the armbands provided:

What about an ultimate patient experience?
How much would it REALLY cost to provide a keepsake like the one given to Mom when Scott & I were born?
- Glass beads in bulk run about a penny each. There are 45 in this bracelet but it’s big on my arm as an adult.
- Say 30 cents.
- Alphabet beads are a bit more expensive but no more than 8 cents per letter.
- 40 cents for my example at today’s costs.
- Cord, string, metal coin or charm is less than 10 cents total in bulk.
- 10 cents
- Assembly — why not contact local nursing homes with this as an activity — or ask for volunteers to assemble pink and blue bracelets? Surely the OB nurse would be happy to add a few alphabet beads. Right??
With what hospitals charge, could they not throw in a dollar bracelet that would serve as a family heirloom?
Now you know: Schneck Medical Center in Seymour, Indiana, recorded 855 live births during the hospital’s reporting period for 2025.
